The Emotional Self Care Toolbox Part Two

Welcome back! In part one of the Emotional Self Care Toolbox, I discussed the importance of emotional self care, and I provided 10 items—some of which are abstract—that keep me level-headed and grounded. In today’s post, I’m sharing 8 more tools in my emotional self care toolbox.

What’s in my Emotional Self Care Toolbox?

  1. An Abundance Mindset

An abundance mindset takes time to develop. You have to train yourself to believe that there are plenty of opportunities in the world and that you’re deserving of those opportunities. You also need to allow your mind to wander. Let yourself dream and imagine a world beyond the present. Allow yourself to explore all options, even if the evidence suggests that these outcomes are impossible. Some of our subconscious beliefs—about ourselves, others, and the world—prevent us from embracing all the beauty that the world has to offer.

  1. Goal-Setting

We can consider goal-setting an extension of our 11th tool in the emotional self care toolbox. Once you believe that opportunities are plentiful, it’s important to get into your strategy bag. What’s the purpose of believing that life has so much to offer without planning to attain some or all of these offerings? When you set goals, you develop a stronger sense of purpose, and it simply feels GOOD when you’ve accomplished something. 1. Self-Investment

Investing time, effort, and resources in ourselves is an act of self-love. This can include learning new skills, pursuing hobbies, or taking the time to rest and recharge. Prioritizing self-investment not only enhances our self-worth but also contributes to a positive and nurturing inner environment.

  1. Managing Expectations

If you know me personally, you know that I hold myself to a high standard. In fact, my standards reside in the stratosphere. And I surround myself with people who hold themselves to high standards. One thing 2023 has taught me is that “you cannot expect you” out of others. Not everyone is operating under the same value system or using the same moral compass. Telling yourself this will allow you to process disappointments more efficiently, and you will be able to devote your energy to other things. I would argue that this is one of the most important tools in the emotional self care toolbox.

  1.  Calculated Risks

Stepping outside our comfort zones and taking calculated risks can lead to personal and professional growth. Facing challenges head-on, with careful consideration, allows us to discover our capabilities and build resilience. The process of overcoming obstacles becomes a source of strength and empowerment. Remember, a comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever grows there 😉

  1. Podcasts/Playlists/Films

Engaging in media that resonates with our emotions can be a therapeutic experience. Whether through inspiring podcasts, uplifting films, or curated playlists, we have the power to choose content that aligns with our emotional needs. These forms of entertainment can offer valuable insights, comfort, and a sense of connection.

  1. Exercise

Physical activity has a profound impact on our emotional well-being. Exercise releases endorphins, reduces stress hormones, and improves overall mood. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a workout session, or a calming yoga practice, incorporating regular exercise into our routine is a powerful act of self-care.

  1. An Unshakeable sense of self

Building a strong and authentic sense of self involves understanding our values, boundaries, and personal identity. Embracing who we are, unapologetically, fosters resilience in the face of life’s challenges. A grounded sense of self serves as a foundation for emotional well-being.

In this exploration of emotional self-care, we’ve uncovered a diverse set of practices that contribute to a healthy and balanced inner world. Embracing an abundance mindset, setting meaningful goals, investing in ourselves, managing expectations, taking calculated risks, enjoying curated content, engaging in regular exercise, and cultivating an unshakeable sense of self all play crucial roles in the ongoing journey of emotional well-being. By integrating these practices into our lives, we empower ourselves to navigate the complexities of emotions with resilience, grace, and self-compassion.
